ROAMING ROOTS

In this day and age full-time remote working has been a standard for many young professionals. This newfound flexibility has prompted people who value the principles of minimalism to reevaluate their priorities, opting them to leave the stress of city life behind in favor of a simpler existence closer to nature. Valuing experiences over possessions, these individuals seek small off-grid living, aim to reduce their ecological footprint and gain financial independence. However, the idea of living compact while being a couple proves to be challenging especially in a long term scenario.

Roaming Roots proposes a visionary concept of a 25 m2 microhome that redefines spatial dynamics to accommodate the evolving needs of its inhabitants, fostering a harmonious balance between work, leisure, and intimate connection amidst the serene backdrop of an off-grid sanctuary. The layout serves the need for adaptable spaces that seamlessly transition throughout the day between work, leisure, and private retreat based on the routines of the occupants. The design proposes a fixed zone for the service areas - kitchen, bathroom, laundry - and a movable modular “wall” which enables the creation of multifunctional living zones. The blurred boundaries of these zones empower the couple to curate their environment according to their desired lifestyle without compromising the intimacy of their shared environment.

In essence, the design represents a harmonious blend of sustainability, functionality, and comfort, offering young professionals the opportunity to embrace a more intentional way of living while fostering a sense of connection to both nature and each other.
